Our Story

Co-founder Tina Gokstorp had been with a major telecommunications company for nearly 10 years when she began working on a special project within Network Engineering. During implementation, she recognized the underlying questions and mounting issues surrounding obsolete and excess inventory. The equipment seemed to be everywhere, taking up storage spaces and valuable operating areas. A project was initiated to address the excess equipment, at which time CTAR co-founder Stephanie McLarty joined the team.

The initiative was successful, while Tina and Stephanie gained valuable insight in the asset recovery process. Although it was recognized that the principle of asset recovery is very beneficial within the telecommunications industry, the mandate and resources of a telecom organization are specific and limited. End-of-life resource management was viewed as advantageous, but the company was focused on their primary business function - and ultimately focused forward on the latest technology.

Recognizing the benefits and opportunities of outsourcing, after the project's successful completion Tina and Stephanie began offering asset recovery services independently in 2006. They used their firsthand experience to the benefit of all Canadian cable/telecom companies. Seeing the need and opportunity in other industries, the company founders gradually included wireless, IT and high tech equipment in their portfolio of services. CTAR also began serving major corporations from other industries which still faced the challenges of obsolete and excess technology. The two women have never looked back; the need, relevance and capability of CTAR are exemplified in the tremendous growth and success of the company since its inception.
